Living Wage Employer, Home Instead

Home Instead Brighton, Hove and Shoreham are delighted to be a Real Living Wage employer. As reported by The Living Wage Foundation, a full-time worker paid the Living Wage will receive more than £2,000 in additional wages compared to the current Government minimum – equivalent to nine months of a typical family’s food and drink bill.

The real living wage (£9.50 across the UK and £10.85 in London) is the UK wage rate which is voluntarily paid by employers who believe their staff deserve more than the national living wage (£8.91). Home Instead Brighton, Hove and Shoreham are one of over 6,500 businesses across the UK that pay their employees above the real living wage. This allows people to afford more of what they need to live more comfortably.

Home Instead specialises in providing quality care for older people to stay independent at home with dignity and certainty. Our care – including Companionship, Home Help, Personal Care and Dementia Care – is the kind we would want for our own loved ones! Our ethos is simple – treat others as we would wish to be treated ourselves.

Our CAREGiver, Kelly, had been working in casino’s for 26 years before joining Home Instead in August. She loves her new role and said “I’ve found something new which suits my personality and I absolutely love it. When I was working in the casino, a lot of older people used to come in. I always used to have a chat with them and listen to all their stories. I knew I could connect with them.

The job is uplifting, rewarding and it’s really nice to get out of a corporate environment. I enjoy working with such lovely people – you won’t come across any unkind people at Home Instead.”

Liz Brackley, Director of Home Instead Brighton, Hove and Shoreham, says:

“It’s important to ensure we are rewarding people for the extremely important job they are doing as CAREGivers. Our key workers look after and support elderly members of the community. I have always been happy to pay above the National Living Wage and intend to always do so.

The real living wage has provided a useful benchmark to ensure we are treating people as fairly as possible. We like to stay updated with what the real living wage is so we can continue to pay our employees what they deserve. I think it’s important to pay people fairly and reward people appropriately for their efforts.

I’m pleased to support the real living wage initiative and am proud to be one of Brighton and Hove’s real living wage employers – we fully support the campaign.”
